CT-M-02. Kunming/Zhongdian/Lijiang/Dali/Jinghong (8 Days)

Day 1
Arrival in Kunming at night, capital of Yunnan Province. Meet and transfer to your hotel.
Accommodation: Overnight in Kunming Jinjiang Hotel

Day 2
Take morning flight from Kunming to Zhongdian, the home of the Tibetan. Transfer to your hotel for a short rest. Drive to visit Ringha Temple (also named as " Temple of the 5 Wisdom Buddhas ") and Tibet village nearby. The temple keeps an important place in the Tibetan community that they consider it as the one of the five most important Tibetan monasteries among Yunnan. Transfer to view Napahai Lake Natural Reserve Area+Tibet village, with altitude of 3,266meters, which lies 8 kilometers northwest of Zhongdian Old Town and is a seasonal lake. Then depart to visit Songzanlin Monastery, or known as “Little Potala” according to its appearance, is a traditional Lama monastery. It was built in 1679 and has been reconstructed several times as it is considered to be one of the most significant monasteries in Yunnan. In the evening, wandering through Old Town.

Day 3
Drive to Lijiang. Stop to visit Shigu Town on the half way. The reason for the name of the town is that there is a drum-shaped tombstone in the town with the inscription recording the story that Mu Gao, the Naxi chieftain, beat the Tibetan. And that is the reason why the town was named as “Shi-gu” (Literally translated from Chinese as “Stone Drum”). On arrival in Lijiang, visit its Old Town which was named a World Heritage Site by the United Nations.

Accommodation: Overnight in Lijiang Hansange Hotel (located in south part of old town)
Evening activity: Enjoy performance of Naxi ancient music


Day 4
In the morning, transfer to visit Yuhu village, located about 15 kilometers North of Lijiang Old Town, the Yuhu village, belonging to the Naxi minority, is the last village of the valley; and is situated at the foot of the Jade Dragon Snow Mountain in Lijiang. The houses, built with unique rocks called "monkey head", sort of mix of the rocks and dried earth, makes the village looks the same as it was in the beginning of the 20th century when Joseph Rock chose this place as his residence place. Then drive to visit Baisha Village and Wall Painting, the old capital of the Naxi, where you can admire the frescoes on one of its ancient temples. In the afternoon, Drive to Shaxi Old Town which is regarded as the most preserved town on the tea and horse trail. Shaxi once played an important role as a bustling trade station on the Tea and Horse Caravan Road, an important branch of the Silk Road. Just over one thousand years ago, this ancient trade route connected Tibet with Eastern China. In exchange for teas from Yunnan, Tibetans traded their famous breed of horse to Song Dynasty officials in eastern China, who were busy defending their territory from invaders from the north. Thus the Tea and Horse Caravan was born. Shaxi became the main trade station along this route.

Day 5
Drive from Shaxi to Dali. On arrival in Dali, transfer to visit to Shuanglang fishing village, a typical Bai village on the east bank of Erhai Lake, Few tourist visit here. Then drive to Xizhou Bai’s village to visit Bai people’s family house, taste three courses tea. Wander through Dali Old Town in the evening.

Day 6
Short Free leisure time in Dali Old Town. Drive to the Dali airport and take air from Dali to Jinghong, the capital of Xishuangbanna and the home of Dai people. On arrival in Jinghong, transfer to Ganlan Ba, also known as Menghan. Ganlanba is about 50 kilometers away from Jinghong. It is a basin by the Mekong. With fertile land, abounding in rice and various tropical fruits, it has always been a very traditional inhabiting area of Dai nationality, vast paddy field in the countryside dotted with numerous Dai villages spreads out a very peaceful picture of rustic life. Linger through Dai minority village.

Transport: Flight from Dali to Jinghong


Day 7
Drive to visit The White Bamboo Shoot Pagoda which was 70km south of Jinghong. It was built in 1204. A legend says that the pagoda's temple was built on the location of a hallowed footprint left behind by Sakyamuni Buddha, who is said to have visited Xishuangbanna. If you have a interest in ancient footprints you can look for it in a niche below one of the nine stupas. The Dai village nearby is worth visiting, people here are friendly. Few tourists visit here. Then drive to Nanuoshan (some 30km, west of Jinghong) to visit Aini people. Take evening flight from Jinghong to Kunbming.

Day 8
Take morning flight from Kunming to Singapore, where this tour ends.
