2013 Xishuangbanna Water Splashing Festival
 
The water Splashing Festival is coming on April 13 to 15. Xishuangbanna located in the southern tip of Yunnan. In Dai language, Xishuang means twelve; Banna means a thousand pieces of land. Xishuangbanna is twelve thousand pieces of land, which simply denotes twelve administrative units. In Dai lunar New Year, commonly called the Water Splashing Festival, the Dai people usually have three days of unbridled celebration. In the first day are fiercely competitive dragon-boat racing on the river and setting off giant sky-rockets. In the second day are going to a fair and throwing love-pouches between young men and young girls to express their admiration for each other. In the third day is splashing water.
There are two ways of splashing. Usually people dip an olive branch into a basin of clear water and spill a few drop onto the heads of others. The other way is to throw basins of water onto a person's face or entire body. When splashed, you must not walk away. Water sprinkle represents the Dai people's gifts to other. The more water splashed the greater blessings and happiness for you.
